House of Lords announce Built Environment Call for Evidence

The House of Lords Select Committee on National Policy for the Built Environment has published its Call for Evidence.

The new House of Lords Committee on National Policy for the Built Environment has today issued its call for written evidence, setting out the scope of its inquiry and asking for evidence submissions.

Issues around housing and the built environment are a pressing concern in England with parts of the country facing acute housing shortages and an affordability crisis, while the legacy of poorly planned and designed developments can blight communities.

Consultation on the Evaluation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive

The European Commission is running a consultation to review the aims and effectiveness of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. The Directive sets a range of provisions to encourage energy efficiency improvements including the requirements for Energy Performance Certificates and Nearly Zero Energy Buildings. The consultation is open until 31 October.

Zero Carbon Hub launch Builders' Book

The Zero Carbon Hub has today released an informative guide for SME house builders that promotes good craftsmanship and highlights key construction details when building a new home. Aimed at on site personnel, this new “Builders’ Book” will improve quality of the homes by identifying, and recommending solutions to, the most common construction issues which may lead to poor performance, loss of comfort, and increased energy bills in new build homes.

Hub Statement on Zero Carbon Policy Announcement

Since its creation in 2008, the Zero Carbon Hub has worked alongside industry on a number of major policy developments across the UK house building sector.

The government's recent statement on zero carbon homes policy makes significant changes to targets and timelines. However, our continuing focus for this year is to improve industry skills and knowledge of low energy building at a time when previous changes to Building Regulations are continuing to bed in.
