Bob Ledsome took over as Deputy Director, head of the Building Regulations and Standards Division at the Department for Communities and Local Government in May 2011. The team is responsible for DCLG’s work on the reviews of building regulations, managing the building control system, zero carbon buildings policy and the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Bob has been with the Department for Communities and Local Government and its predecessor departments since 2002. He led the team which took the 2004 Planning Act through Parliament. He has worked on European funding programmes. Most recently he was head of climate change and sustainable development, leading on DCLG’s work on the cross government climate change programmes. He is a non executive director of the board of the Zero Carbon Hub.
Before joining DCLG, Bob spent over 12 years working with the Health and Safety Executive – including a period working on safety issues associated with the construction and operation of the Channel tunnel. Bob started his civil service career in the Employment Department, working on employment and training policy, and in the then Unemployment Benefit Service.
